Games and People

http://www.kpho.com/news/27669442/detail.html

So there was some heated controversy in the Android market this week as the producers of a dog fighting game decided to pull the wares after some heated discussion online. Click the link above for more info. Basically people are bent out of shape over a a game that allows people to train video game dogs to fight each other. After reading the article I was amazed how this became headlines enough to have the game pulled. Its a game people. With the hundreds of games that have players shooting, blowing up, and taking humans heads off, I find it very odd that the game that heats people up is one that involves violence between animals. What the fuck? Some people were quoted as saying, “its not the right message to kids to have a game where they train dogs to kill each other.” Oh, but I suppose killing other people is fine when its done in a video game? Either way, I say its bullshit. Its entertainment and falls into the common sense thinking that just because I see it on TV, movies, music, or games….doesnt make it right to do in real life. Entertainment is not a substitute for life choice making, its just to waste hours and tickle your fancy while taking a break from real life.

And thats what FaceBook has to offer. Throw images of your friends from tall building in their game. Hilarious that people are giggling and finding it amusing to throw real pictures of people they know from a building only to see them disgusted at animals and humans in pixelated form going at it on screens. People are fucking idiots when it comes to shit like that. They will sit on the couch with their kids and watch network tv shows with gunfire and violence…but at the first frame of a naked ass or breast they get all bent out of shape. Meaning they prefer their children to accept violence as more appropriate than sexuality in life. And lets not forget the “No animals were harmed in the making of this film” in the end credits. Thats because we could give two shits less if some stunt double dies and is only newsworthy enough to hit page 32 in the paper. Think about it people, thats fucked up.

I dont condone dog fighting as I dont believe in actual violence against real people. That said, I like entertainment and believe people who can differentiate the two (real and fake) should be able to immerse themselves into whatever sick and twisted plot someone creates for my break from this fucked up reality. But I also understand thats my choice and the norm as it should be in our little part of the world. I do realize dog fighting and even the consuming of canines is common in other parts of the world and thats fine by me as who am I to judge another peoples laws and cultures? I mean really, we in America favor on screen killings of people over sex as normal. – Razor

Jennifers Body and Jonah Hex

This past weekend Direct TV was running a free promotional viewing for HBO and Cinemax and it must have been a Megan Fox theme weekend for HBO’s movies as she was in four of the movies in rotation. Weird. Anyways, we are so glad we never bought Jennifers Body or Jonah Hex as they were two movies we wanted to get. Alhana and I love the shit out of that woman, but damn, Jennifers Body sucked ass. And Jonah Hex wasnt all bad, just jumped around too much and never really established any solid character development. And I have to say, Megan Fox wasnt the key component in both of those movies faults…it was clearly in the writing because I couldnt imagine any actor or actress saving the plots and story in Jennifers Body. Even Amanda Seyfried was there and fine in form but how can anyone make anything positive out of the shit lines they gave her and Megan?

So there you have it. I will say that there are movies that fell apart because of the actors, but these two flicks are not the case. Lot of people were harsh on Megan Fox and the movies she was in and its not quite fair. Put her in a movie that has a great plot and terrific writing and then lets gauge her acting. I am not saying she will shine and I want to prove that she is great, but I also cant fault her or anyone if the movie bombs cause the story sucked ass. Hell, even in Jonah Hex, the lead guy couldnt carry that mess and he was fantastic in Old Country for Old Men. Hell, even Amanda had some great roles where she rocked recently.

And I love the shit out of the Transformers flicks but even then its tough to gauge Megan Fox in those movies. When you pay to see classic summer blockbusters with babes, cars, explosions, etc….your not really looking to be moved by great acting spewing out thought jarring performances. As long as the acting isnt something so bad as to be detered every time you see it…then its all good. Hell, she could have been the lead role replacing Shia as the main character and I bet it would have been the same movies. – Razor

X Men Origins – Wolverine

Watched Wolverine Origins last night on BD and although we seen it in the theaters, it was a pretty good flick. One thing that kind of throws me off is the storylines and the time they take place. I have read hard core comic fans gripes about the characters and how Hollywood is destroying their stories. I am not one of those people but I do notice things some people might find not up to par. One thing in particular is the new X Men First Class flick coming out this year. Emma Frost and Xavier are the same age, or at least Xavier isnt bald…but in Wolverine she is a teen and when Xavier rescues them in the end….he is the bald Patrick Stewart. Another thing is, as a normal movie goer, you know they fucked up the very first X Men movie in the series when there is no mention by anyone that Sabertooth is Logans brother. I know Wolverine lost his memory, but Sabertooth is reduced to a mindless idiot in the first X Men movie. Anyways, I understand there are many different versions and incarnations of the comics as there are the movies. Just saying that for normal folks, certain inconsistancies may say “WTF”?

End of Week Blurbs (March 25th, 2011)

– So it warmed up and then it cooled off this week and dumped an assload of snow. A good thing to get a few more rides in on the sled but it was a pain in the ass to clear out the snow in front of the garage. It was about 4 feet deep in some parts of the drifts. But I think winter is dead and wont linger for much longer. WHich means sport bike season is soon to follow.

– Installed some new CPU coolers on two of our PCs. Ordered Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and its a good thing we build our PCs with the biggest cases they make. The coolers are huge and dropped the temps in one PC from 65-75C to 36-42C which is a great drop on the 775 chipset. And the best part is they are super easy to intall and the noise levels are nonexistant on our i7 build. I did have to place the fan blowing up instead of back towards the case as they show due to RAM placement issues…but its no biggie and works fine.

– Our new PS3 got here with KillZone 3 and its a pretty sweet game and pretty easy to get into coming from a PC backround. Absolutely looks amazing on our 65″ HDTV. We are looking to pick up another PS3 and place a 55″ in our bedroom for some family missions to add to our PC gaming nights. Some people shake their heads when anyone mentions having three systems but to be honest, we could buy three PS3′s and three new TVs and still be cheaper off than one of our PC builds. Hell, Alhana’s i7 chip and motherboard was $850 so technically in gaming standards, $300 is a drop in the bucket.

– Sadly, our Sony receiver died so I am in the market for a new surround system. Time to invest in 7.1 and some new speakers while buying since that seems to be the standard. Probably stick with Sony as the one we are looking at will hook up to all our other equipment. It was 6 years old so I cant bitch. Probably should have upgraded when we bought our HD-DVD player a few years back, which now is collecting dust as we gambled on the wrong HD format and then had to get a Blu Ray player two years ago. Ugh.

– Taxes are due in a month and I havent touched them yet. I always procrastinate and since we dont get any taken out, I cringe at the thought of paying in. So far, so good but it still makes me put them off till the last minute. Even when I knew I was getting money back I waited. Guess I am not in that big of a rush or expecting to need that refund (or pay in) like so many others do. Not saying that people who rush to get money are wrong, but I just have the mentality never to rely on money from the Government as an income booster. Which is a good thing because I hope the Gov doesnt expect me to do my taxes early if I owe them. LMAO.

Video Conversions and Friday Night Tech Talk

So heres a tidbit on what we do  when we are not shooting, fucking, sucking, or otherwise being perverted adults entertaining others. You know I had 10 2TB hard disk drives sent here so I can back up alot of our content. Alot of that content is coming from the past 5 years that we recorded to MiniDV, which was the best way to shoot video at the time. So I have been downloading 200+ hours of video to our PC’s and then backing them up then storing the tapes. This way its easier to grab video when I need it on the fly. Plus we have been tweaking our videos for the best possible viewing on computer screens and new HD TV’s.

For a brief run down, the old standard Standard Definition videos shot were 720×480 with a non-square pixel format. Computer screens and new HD screens are a perfect square pixel which means that SD videos just didnt look quite right. Windows Media player would convert videos automatically to show correctly, but its better to convert SD to a square pixel aspect ratio so every device plays the videos correctly. After much reading and hair pulling, I finally got the formula down pat and basically I uncompress our clips and recompress to 640×480 with a square pixel adjustment and then resharpen and thus far our members say the clips look better than when we first posted them.

Also we have taken the time to put our clips in various formats such as WMV and MP4 so our members can take our clips with them on various portable devices. I use all Adobe programs and Premiere Pro has been a life send although I understand for alot of people it may be a bit overkill and the price may be a bit much. But since we use Adobe for web design, photo editing, and many other of their programs, its nice to keep it simple and stick with their software cause it all flows easily together. And now that our new stuff is being shot on two HD cameras, Adobe takes it and spits it out in useable form very quickly. ANd thats tonights post. Hope you get a little bit of what I do and I am attaching a link or two so you can read up on the super cramped explaination I gave you about square and non-square PAR.

What we use in our work flows in most everything you see.

Want to add that in order to do what we do, you do not need to spend tons of money to get the same results. It just was easy for me to grasp Adobes programs and how to manipulate my projects with them. Some use Final Cut Pro and there are others, but when you find what works, its easier to keep with it. At a $2500 intitial price it is steep, and we upgrade $900 every other release. First Adobe 7.0, then CS2 and now CS4 and we will upgrade when CS6 is released. What we do is set aside 10% of our revenues and dedicate them to software, hardware, cameras, laptops, PC’s, etc to keep up to date. Having a plan like that helps in keeping ahead to where you can then focus on the content.

RottenStar Spotlight – Adorable Audrey

This week I was slacking on the Monday spotlight due to the Holiday. And if you know us, you know thats bull cause we dont really take off Holidays unless we want to, but all the same…I am late. This week I would like to give a shout out and praise for one of the first girls we ever shot with and whom is a great friend in the business. Now hailing from Las Vegas, Adorable Audrey and her husband rock their own amateur/independant site that emphasizes on legs and glasses to name a few. A wonderful couple and a blast to shoot with as well as hang out and part. We cant wait to get down to see them because the best part of having great friends like them is never ending places to explore for new shoots. Please take the time to check out her wares at www.adorableaudrey.com and see what she has been up to. Audrey herself is a huge blogger and for those who like the written word as much as the visuals of her pics, then thats an extra bonus. – Razor
